When my husband and I started looking for crib mattresses while I was pregnant with our twins we had NO idea what to look for. Thankfully, like always I started doing searches on Amazon to read reviews and that is where I learned about not having a mattress that was too soft. After much searching & reading we picked out 3 we liked best, one cheaper than this, one considerably more expensive & this one.
The cheaper mattress was TOO soft & did not have many springs. My husband thought it seemed like a fine mattress to buy UNTIL I was easily able to take my hand and squeeze the sides of the mattress together, top touching bottom. Then I explained to him that once a baby is old enough to stand their weight would crush the mattress just like I did and that is unsafe. Plus babies are supposed to sleep on a firm surface, not soft. After my demonstration my husband understood.
Next we did the same test with this mattress. You could not easily squeeze the sides of the mattress together, even my husband tried. It had a lot more springs than the cheaper one, it was firm but also comfortable. We also liked that it is basically water proof. And the plastic does not make any noise, nor is it loose at all.
We stopped our search there and purchased 2 of these. My girls are almost 1 year and their beds show no signs of wear, no indentations, nothing wrong at all. My girls even hold onto the sides of their crib and jump and the mattress does not sink at all even when they jump at the very edge. My girls sleep all night in these so they must be comfortable.
I don’t think you need to spend an arm and a leg in order to get a safe & comfortable mattress. Don’t get one so cheap that it is flimsy, doesn’t have many springs, that you can easily squeeze the sides together or that the plastic covering is loose. This one is perfect.
It also fits perfectly snug in my girls cribs and every sheet we’ve used fits perfectly.

Picking a mattress is a difficult decision, it is hard to know if one will be the right one,
when you look for a mattress for your self you can just lay on them and if they feel right you know, with a crib mattress your baby wont tell you if it feels right, for one they dont know and they cant tell you with words..
Most importantly when looking for a crib mattress you want something that is safe (not too soft, or too small) and will hold up until they move on to a big kid bed.
We picked/ and like this mattress for a couple reasons:
It fits our Crib (Davinci “Parker” 4-1)like a glove, no space between.. so its safe. It has a waterproof nonallergic top layers so you don’t have to worry about “fluids” absorbing and it doesnt make a plastic noise when you push down on it, it was firm enough but still a little soft to comfort baby, also has a 15 year warranty.
I have yet to see a bad review for this mattress, and I personally recommend this mattress to my friends.

This mattress was recommended in the book Baby Bargains,7th ed by Denise and Alan Fields. It arrived within two days of ordering by FedEx in excellent condition. The mattress itself is firm but not too firm. My 14 week old baby fell asleep easily for a daytime nap. He had been sleeping in a Mini-Convertible Co-sleeper to give you an idea of what he was used to sleeping on. It has a 20-year warranty, not 15-year as I think the description said? For the price, this mattress is a very good value.

We put our crib together last night a realized that there must be a specific size mattress for our crib. I rushed to my computer to double check the dimensions of this mattress (which I purchased from amazon). The dimensions listed here on amazon for this mattress are wrong. I checked the tag on the mattress and it is 51 5/8 by 27 1/4 which is the exact size needed for our crib.

I purchased this crib mattress based on the good reviews. However, when I set up my new crib (Babyletto Modo Convertible Crib) and put the mattress in it, I noticed a gap along the long side of the crib. Even with a crib pad and sheets on, there is still a gap. My crib bumper even falls in between. When I looked up “standard crib mattress size” it should be 27 1/4 inch in width. This mattress is actually only 27 inches. In addition, I can easily fit two fingers width between the mattress and the side of the crib. I would suggest everyone who is considering this mattress to stay on the safe side and get a mattress that is 51 and 5/8 inches by 27 and 1/4 inches. I wish I knew this before I purchased this mattress.
4/10/2009 update: I usually set my baby down on the same spot on the mattress. He doesn’t move around much (yet). After about two months, I noticed an indent on the mattress made by my baby. I’m not sure if this is normal, but I know my own mattress doesn’t do this. Not sure if this is a sign of poor quality.

This is the second Ergo infant insert I’ve bought. I bought this one hoping it would work better than the old infant insert. It doesn’t. Basically, if your newborn doesn’t like the Ergo carrier, it’s likely neither insert is going to help. You should test the Ergo with your newborn before spending the money.
My husband and I loved the idea of the Ergo carrier, as the hip belt helps alleviate back problems and is much like our packs for backpacking, so we registered for one. But however much we like the carrier, my eight-week-old, 10.5 pound daughter hates it. I’ve been trying to get her into the Ergo using first the old infant insert, and now the Heart 2 Heart, repeatedly ever since she was born, but with no success. The moment I put her (in the insert) into the Ergo carrier, she starts screaming and doesn’t stop until I take her out. I’ve watched the video for the old insert (note: there’s no video for the Heart 2 Heart) and am following their technique exactly, but still she just hates the carrier.
Neither insert provides enough head support for my daughter, which is why I think she screams. The Heart 2 Heart in particular doesn’t work; when she’s settled into it as per the instructions, the insert doesn’t come up high enough to support her head, and she’s not a particularly long child. So her head flops forward when she tries to look around, which frustrates her.
Both inserts feel like a bit of an afterthought — I’m not convinced the Ergo carrier was designed with newborns in mind. Having the baby’s feet out one side in the old insert seemed like a stopgap solution, and the Heart 2 Heart doesn’t quite solve the issue, either. Interestingly, I picked up a used Baby Bjorn as a last resort after having spent all this money on the Ergo and the inserts, and she likes the Bjorn, because it’s stiffer and provides more support. I think she won’t like the Ergo until her head’s a bit steadier; we’ll go back to the Ergo then.
So it’s worth knowing before buying this insert that it may or may not be money well spent — it all just depends on whether your child likes it or not, and there’s a possibility she won’t (as I’ve now seen multiple reports on various sites saying that their newborns also don’t like the Ergo; wish I’d done this research before getting the Ergo and spending the money on the inserts). It’s worth waiting until after your baby is born and trying out the infant inserts before buying them. Otherwise, you may want to hold off on the Ergo until 4-5 months.

We are grateful that Ergo came out with this new insert as we were hearing that their previous insert was not really working with newborns.

We have been so thankful for the heart-2-heart insert as our son has loved his time spent in it. He’s only 4 days old and the insert is just perfect for his little body. It’s supportive and comfortable for him. He sleeps like a champ whenever he’s in it

We purchased the Ergo Baby carrier and Heart to Heart infant insert for use with our two-month-old son. Overall, my baby and I are very happy with the product.
Pros:
1. I love that this insert holds the baby upright — my son definitely prefers being carried this way. (The older style infant insert carries the baby in a reclining position, “sling-style.”)
2. The insert positions the baby EXACTLY the way I hold him when I’m cuddling him close to my chest. The little padded seat holds him up the way I hold him with my hands, and his legs are positioned exactly the same way. This tells me that the Heart to Heart insert really does mimic the most natural way of carrying a child.
3. It doesn’t put all his weight on his crotch, unlike other front carriers.
Cons:
1. It’s very fluffy and padded. This is great for winter time, as you don’t need coats or blankets for the baby. But if you were to carry a summer-born infant in this carrier, you and he might become uncomfortably warm.
2. It’s a little tricky to position the baby in comfortably, and the directions aren’t entirely clear. (At one point, the directions say it’s important to put your hands under the baby’s bottom and rotate the baby forward, which I’m still not quite sure I’m doing correctly.) But after a couple times, it’s much easier.
3. The baby’s feet are still inside the carrier and always feel a bit squished. My son seems perfectly comfortable, so I’m sure it doesn’t bother him, but they do look rather squished.
Overall, I would highly recommend this product for a fall- or winter-born baby. If you live in a place with very hot weather and your baby will be a newborn during the warm months, you might need something a little more light weight.

So I received the ergo with my first child, after she was 6 months old. I didn’t use it too much as she wasn’t into being in any carrier. My sister, however, used the ergo alot and loved it. So with my 2nd baby, I bought the new heart to heart infant insert, thinking it’ll make it more like the bjorn but with better back support for me with the waist belt.
I do think the new heart to heart is nice, since the baby is higher up on your chest and can see you better; but, I still don’t really like it. I tried the ergo with the new infant insert when my baby was 4 weeks old, and she DID NOT like being squished facing me. She did like the cradle position, but that put ALOT of stress on my low back since it really made me front heavy with her sideways. I tried it again when she is 10 weeks old and she still doesn’t have good head support (her head is above the actual ergo carrier, and the insert is floppy with little support). I folded the top part of the insert over and that helped a bit, but I’m constantly fidgeting with it, as it loosens up as I move around with the baby. And again, she hates being squished when she’s facing me.
I have the baby bjorn and while it doesn’t have as much support for me, it does support my baby well. She can face me without being squished and still move her head a bit with good head support. I also like the straps of the baby bjorn, as they are wide and flat against my body; vs. the bulky ergo straps and the buckles on the ergo end up being between my arms and torso – rubbing uncomfortably after a couple of minutes.
So while my baby is in the newborn stage and light enough, I’ll continue to use the baby bjorn. When she has better head control and begins to get heavy, I’ll likely switch to the ergo when I don’t have to deal with the infant insert.

I love this new insert. My little girl is almost 12 lbs at 3 months and we’ve been using a different carrier by Lillebaby. Now she wants to be upright so we tried the ergo baby out for the first time. The other insert kept her wrapped up but I felt like she was constantly sliding down. This insert is great! She sits much higher in the carrier and can even look around now. She usually falls asleep after a while in the carrier because she’s so comfortable. It doesn’t overheat her like the other infant insert. The only downside about this is that she drools on me because she puts her head on my chest to sleep. I’m sure that will change once she gets older and for now I just put a burp cloth down which works just fine. I think she’ll easily make it with this insert to 5 months. Well worth the money. I actually bought mine at [...] though so I could get the galaxy print which is adorable.
